Webelos and Wolves exploring

June 10 2006 Pack 447 had a day trip to Sonora Caverns. We had five Scouts, five Scouting adults, and two Scouting buddys. We got to go on the educational tour the Caverns provides. A slide show was provided showing how the caverns were created. We then got to dig and look for fossils. After we discovered some "new" remains we got to put on mining helmets with lights and do some cave crawling. A GREAT time was had by all! The staff at Sonora Caverns is incredible, they made this visit a great experience.

We held our Crossover ceremony May 22 at the City park in Miles. Pack 447 had six Tiger Scouts crossing to their new Wolf Den, and three Bears crossing over to their new Webelos Den. After the ceremony we enjoyed a hot dog cookout and cake for dessert. As always this would not have happened if it was not for our adult Scouters, especially our Assistant Cubmaster who provided the food, decorations, and had the crossover program prepared.

Pack 447 attended the Family Campout at Camp Sol Mayer May 12-14. This family camp had 360 campers attend, this is the 2nd largest crowd for family camp. Pack 447 had seventeen Scouts and family members present. During Family camp we had to provide our own meals. We learned how to make omeletes in a bag, turtles in foil packs (no we did not cook real turtles the foil packs resemble turtles after cooking) and campfire apple cobbler in a dutch oven, which tastes very good the next morning for breakfast.
The temperatures for Saturday were around the century mark, so when our time to swim came along we enjoyed cooling off in the pool. Pack 447 had five Scouts and family members pass the swim test at the pool, you must swim the length of the pool three times without stopping, the last leg can be on your back.
Saturday night we attended the campfire ceremony put on by the staff (Troop 22 from San Angelo). Our Scouts really enjoyed singing the "Squirel song, the watermelon cheer, and the closing song" at one time Pack 447 had four Scouts up in the front helping the staff with a song or skit.
Many Thanks to Concho Valley Council BSA for operating and maintaing Camp Sol Mayer. Thanks to Boy Scout Troop 22 in San Angelo for staffing Family Camp. Our Cubs got a first hand look at what a good troop looks and acts like. Big round of applause to Troop 22s Scoutmaster, he put on a show at the Campfire that was fun, and kept our Scouts wondering what he was going to do next.

San Saba river at Camp Sol Mayer
Pack 447 had eight Moms and nine Scouts attend the Mom and Me campout this past weekend at Camp Sol Mayer. The campers endured rain, hail and wind. They did not let the unfavorable weather dampen their enthusiasm. Some activities included, going down the San Saba river in paddle boats, shooting BB guns, archery, swimming, and the Mud Pit!
Thanks to the Moms for going on this campout with your Scouts.
